@mackuba.eu I think Clearsky dev wants to add more features later that will require a bit more than this
@mackuba.eu Yeah, true
@clearsky.app There isn’t really any non-public data that they could be selling to other companies this way, and you can’t sell something that’s available in the public Bluesky API…
@mackuba.eu Also @jimray.bsky.team
@mackuba.eu Yeah that’s a whole different story… but I’ve seen people specifically take offense in using OAuth and asking why not app passwords
@mackuba.eu bsky.app/profile/fry6…
@mackuba.eu Oh, that’s a good idea
@tylerjfisher.com Clearsky added it now, and a lot of people outside the developer community use it
@mackuba.eu But I do regularly ask GPT for anything I struggle at least a bit with, it’s generally a much faster way of solving problems than trying to find the answer to the exact problem you’re looking for on Google
@mackuba.eu I still can’t get myself to switch more seriously to a style of work with agents coding for me, I don’t trust them enough and want full control of the code and I need to rewrite everything after it anyway, which makes it possibly slower than coding by hand…
@mikebeas.com Well, it is for Bluesky & Bluesky tools which they have been using for a while now in a different way…
@mackuba.eu Yeah, tbh I don’t remember it off the top of my head either, I would need to search a bit for it
@mackuba.eu ( @leaflet.pub any idea why the previews aren’t working on this one?… either like this or via highlight share links)
@mackuba.eu Yeah, that too
@chaotichuman.bsky.social Yeah, the problem is that (as I understand) the permissions system is not 100% finished and ready to use yet at the moment, which the Bluesky team admits themselves and they say they will work on that in the next few weeks
@mackuba.eu Yeah, I think like you say, the problem is caused by OAuth surfacing what permissions you give more so than app passwords do, or to put it differently, that app passwords kinda hide this in a way that makes people think they are much more restricted/secure than they really are…
@mackuba.eu I think the conclusion is that once you launch OAuth in a tool targeted at a larger non-technical userbase, you need to be prepared that you’re gonna have a Bit Of A Problem…
@mackuba.eu Yeah someone literally said “even the official Bluesky app supports app passwords, so why do you need to steal our main passwords” (highlight mine)
@chaotichuman.bsky.social OAuth doesn’t steal your main password, you log in with the password to your PDS and Clearsky gets a kind of access token only in return, not the password
@awarm.space I was surprised at first it’s not Markdown, but then I saw you have many types of custom blocks like link button, full block link, embedded website as iframe, bluesky post, math, and so on (probably more coming), and using Markdown would mean having to do some custom extensions or hacks to save that
@jcsalterego.bsky.social I’m not convinced that there is anything out there that could fix you, Jerry…
